Central Switzerland — the heart of the Alps

Central Switzerland brings together everything Switzerland stands for: majestic mountains, crystal-clear lakes and a hotel culture without equal anywhere in the world. Lucerne as the cultural centre, Lake Lucerne as the backdrop and Rigi, Pilatus and Titlis as mountain icons — here nothing is missing.

Adults-Only hotels in Central Switzerland cater to a discerning clientele. Guests come for the combination of nature, culture and absolute calm. In recent years Andermatt has grown into one of the most exclusive mountain-resort destinations in Europe.

Lucerne and the lake

Lucerne is the starting point. The city offers world-class cuisine, the famous Chapel Bridge and a vibrant cultural scene — and yet you are right in the middle of the mountains within 30 minutes. Hotels on Lake Lucerne combine city life with lakeside romance.

The lake itself is an experience: fjord-like bays, sheer cliffs that plunge straight into the water, and a steamboat that has linked the shores for more than 100 years. Many Adults-Only hotels arrange private dinner cruises — romance hardly gets more exclusive.

A tip for art lovers: the KKL (Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre) by Jean Nouvel is architecturally spectacular and hosts concerts and exhibitions of international calibre all year round.

Andermatt — the new Alpine luxury

Andermatt has transformed from a sleepy mountain village into a luxury hotspot. The Chedi Andermatt fired the starting shot, and today several Adults-Only and adults-preferred hotels line up alongside one another. In winter the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun with 180 kilometres of pistes; in summer hiking, golf and the Gotthard Pass as a legendary mountain road.

What sets Andermatt apart from St. Moritz: less celebrity bustle, more genuine mountain air. The infrastructure is new and modern, yet the atmosphere is deliberately quiet. No seeing-and-being-seen — simply being there and savouring it.

Bürgenstock and Weggis

The Bürgenstock above Lake Lucerne is a universe of its own. The Bürgenstock Resort — one of the largest hotel resorts in Europe — offers a spa, pools, restaurants and a viewpoint that takes your breath away. Audrey Hepburn and Sean Connery stayed here. Today it is an adults-preferred retreat at 874 metres.

Weggis and Vitznau on the southern shore of the lake are the Mediterranean corners of Central Switzerland. Palm trees by the water, a mild climate, the Rigi railway right at the doorstep. Travel time from Zurich: just under 1 hour.
