Thermal spas and wellness from age 16: what the rules cover
“Adults-only spa” can mean the whole venue or one zone. Check the scope, exceptions and whether hotel booking includes admission.
Contents 3 min read
For a quiet visit, check the exact area before booking. Some venues set an age limit for the whole thermal bath; others apply it only to a wellness zone. Family hours and separate pools can change the picture. This guide distinguishes the areas and links to operator sources. Recheck current rules before travelling.
| Venue | Area and minimum age | Exception / note | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Therme Linsberg Asia, Bad Erlach | Thermal bath, sauna and spa from 16 | Children may enter Café Green Bamboo. FAQ says “from 16”; house rules say “over 16”. Anyone exactly 16 should confirm entry directly. | Operator FAQ |
| Therme Bad Wörishofen | Thermal bath generally from 16 | Family Saturday every Saturday, 09:00–19:00, admits under-16s. The separate sports pool has no age limit. | Frequently asked questions |
| Therme Erding | Only VitalOase and VitalTherme & Saunas are 16+ | Other areas welcome families. VitalOase is textile; VitalTherme & Saunas is textile-free. | Therme FAQ |
| Schaffelbad, Loipersdorf | Separate premium area from 16 | The rest of the thermal and adventure baths are family-accessible. Main sauna village is from 13, with supervision required until 16. | Schaffelbad |
Three kinds of wellness break
A thermal bath with an age rule is a public facility with an age limit for the whole venue or named zones. A hotel with its own spa provides wellness for guests; day visits may be possible but limited and reservation-based. Private wellness by the hour means a separately bookable room or area. These are different products. Check which one you are booking.
Check before you book
- Does the age rule cover the whole venue or one zone?
- Are there family hours, special days or supervision rules?
- Does your ticket cover every area you want to use?
- Are reservations, a robe corridor or transfers required?
- Is spa admission included? Never assume a hotel booking includes it.
Three selected wellness hotels
These are curated wellness hotels, not nearby recommendations ranked by distance from the spas above. A hotel stay does not promise admission to a public thermal bath; ticket and package terms apply.
- Hotel & Spa Linsberg Asia: the hotel's own wellness area and the directly connected public thermal bath are distinct. The public venue has its own age rules.
- SPA RESORT STYRIA: an own hotel spa with thermal water, not a public thermal bath. Day visitors need an advance reservation and available capacity.
- Posthotel Achenkirch: hotel-owned wellness pools; the operator does not describe their water as thermal. No proximity to the spas above is implied.

Frequently asked questions
Does “16+” mean the entire venue is adults-only?
No. At Erding and Loipersdorf the limit applies only to named areas. Bad Wörishofen has family hours and a separate sports pool without an age limit.
Is spa admission included in a hotel price?
Not automatically. A connected hotel, its own spa and a public thermal-bath ticket are separate services. Check your specific booking confirmation and ask the operator if unclear.
