Kaleiçi for Two: Explore Antalya’s Old Town
Kaleiçi is Antalya’s historic core within the old fortifications, not the whole city centre. Traces of different eras sit among small squares, traditional houses and present-day city life. For an easy outing together, link Hadrian’s Gate, the Yivli Minaret and the harbour, then add the coast if the weather and your energy allow. Keep the route flexible: the lanes invite the occasional spontaneous turn.

Enter through Hadrian’s Gate
Begin at Hadrian’s Gate, a Roman monument built in 130 CE. Narrow streets lead from here into the historic quarter shaped by its fortifications. Take time for traditional houses, courtyards and small squares. Part of Kaleiçi’s appeal is the shift from busy lanes to quieter side streets; you do not need to follow a fixed loop to get a feel for the neighbourhood.
Link the Yivli Minaret and harbour
The Yivli Minaret complex brings together Seljuk-era buildings, including a mosque, madrasas and tombs. Continue south towards the historic yacht harbour in its sheltered cove. The descent to the water is part of the walk and involves a noticeable change in elevation. Comfortable shoes and an unhurried pace make this section easier to enjoy together.
Finish with a coastal view
If you still have energy, continue towards Karaalioğlu Park and Hıdırlık Tower. The tower stands at the southwest corner of the old walls, while park paths and viewpoints open up after the close streets. In heat or wind, shorten the coastal section and make the harbour your endpoint. Pay attention to the conditions as you go and adjust the walk to suit you both.
Before your trip
- • Start at Hadrian’s Gate and explore the lanes at an easy pace.
- • Allow for the descent to the harbour and the uphill return.
- • Bring water and sun protection; adapt the coast section to conditions.
Experiences are not necessarily child-free. The minimum age applies to each hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kaleiçi all of central Antalya?
No. Kaleiçi means the historic quarter within and beside the old fortifications. Antalya extends far beyond it, so treat the old town as one focused part of a city visit.
Can we include the harbour on foot?
Yes. The historic yacht harbour lies south of the old town. The route has a change in elevation, so allow time for the return uphill and a pause by the water.
